SHE WILL is a new psychological horror movie that might be slow-burn but never gets boring. I was absolutely mesmerized by both the story, the scenery, and the breathtaking visuals along with the amazing performances by the entire cast.

The film even opens with a “Dario Argento presents”-notice, so you know that this is the kind of movie that will have something extra. Both in terms of setting and content. If you like his style, you should certainly enjoy this new movie as well.

Alice Krige makes an exceptional impact
To me, Alice Krige is the kind of actor that I always recognize immediately and then I wonder where I saw her last. She’s been around for a very long time. Something that resonates perfectly with the character she’s portraying in She Will.

The character is Veronica Ghent and she’s described as “aging actress, Veronica Ghent” and she travels to a remote retreat in Scotland with her nurse, Desi Hatoum. She’s there to recuperate from a double mastectomy operation.

Once she’s at the retreat, she begins to realize a lot about her own body, past traumas, and her worth in general. Seeing her discover these things and come to terms with her past is amazing. Especially as much of it happens through her getting revenge in her dreams (and maybe in real life as well?!).

You might recognize Alice Krige from the Netflix series The OA or series such as Deadwood or Six Feet Under. Her first feature film was Chariots of Fire (1981), but she was also in Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers (1992) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). Most recently, she was in Gretel & Hans (2020) and in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022).

She Will – Review | Psychological Horror Movie
Brilliant core cast!
The nurse of the “aging actress recuperating”, Desi Hatoum, is portrayed by Kota Eberhardt (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) who does an amazing job as well. At first, she tries to just stay out of the way as her patient is both angry and in pain. However, she also makes demands of her and tries tough love when necessary. They have perfect chemistry!

At the retreat in Scotland, we see Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding) as the man leading the various shenanigans. This is exactly the kind of role that is perfect for Rupert Everett right now. He does not hold back and just acts crazy in all the right ways.

Finally, there’s a character who could very easily be described as a fictional version of Roman Polanski. He’s played by Malcolm McDowell. The ways in which especially Alice Krige and Malcolm McDowell interact are genius – once again, the visuals just highlight this!

Watch She Will in Select Theaters or On-Demand
Charlotte Colbert is the director of She Will and I am absolutely crazy about her style. Both in terms of storytelling and the intense visual style and intense focus of characters. This is the feature film debut of Charlotte Colbert which means I expect great things from her in the future. Prior to this debut, she directed four short films.

Also, she produced the awesome BBC short film Leading Lady Parts.

The screenplay for She Will was also written by Charlotte Colbert along with Kitty Percy. If this is what happens when they work together on a screenplay, I really hope this is just the first project of many for the duo.

If you like a solid psychological horror movie where the story is driven by both the characters and their surroundings, then She Will is perfect for you. Especially if you enjoy breathtaking visuals and female-led stories!

SHE WILL premieres in select theaters and on demand on July 15, 2022. Shudder will also be launching the title on October 14, 2022.
